Summary:

The term sesamoiditis most commonly refers to inflammation and swelling of the soft tissues in the region of one or both sesamoid bones of the forefoot, with a localized tendinosis of the medial and lateral heads of the flexor hallucis brevis tendons in which they reside, as well as inflammation of the nearby metatarsophalangeal joint capsule.

Objectives:

The goal of this sesamoiditis program is to help physical therapists identify the etiology, presentation and treatments associated with sesamoiditis. After reading this module, you will be able to:
  • Describe the relevant anatomy of the first metatarsophalangeal region, and discuss the mechanisms of injury associated with sesamoiditis
  • Explain the etiology and risk factors associated with sesamoiditis
  • Discuss the most common treatment approaches for patients with sesamoiditis

The author seems to know the biomechanical aspect that causes sesamoiditis. Very seldom I see an author explains kinesiology nowadays.
