Inappropriate patient sexual behavior (IPSB) is any verbal or physical act of an explicit or perceived sexual nature that is unacceptable within the social context in which it is carried out when committed by a patient and directed at a clinician, staff, or other patient in any healthcare setting. IPSB encompasses a spectrum of behaviors, including staring, propositions, genital exposure, and sexual assault. Professionals may experience ethical distress when attempting to balance their legal and ethical commitment to the health of a misbehaving patient with their own right to workplace safety.

The goal of this continuing education program is to provide physical therapists with information about the prevalence of inappropriate patient sexual behavior (IPSB) and to offer effective responses at the level of the individual and the profession. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
  • Construct assertive responses to IPSB using three techniques
  • Identify five resources for support when IPSB creates a hostile work environment
  • Describe three actions the physical therapy profession can take to reduce the negative effects of IPSB

This topic has taken front center stage with violations taken at religious and work place institutions. Finally women are taking proactive steps but unfortunately still present day is a up hill battle. I guess the question is why is it? Look at our recent senate hearings regarding Trump and supreme court justice Kavanaugh.Kavanaugh you can make excuses for but Trump? Really? Thats a problem
